Brewing Trouble
A downloadable game for Windows
Status:
This is a prototype I've been working on since october 2024. It started as a college project, but I believe it has the potential to be a full game.
You will play as a shut-in alchemist apprentice who's professor had to leave on a trip to the neighbouring country. And now it's up to you to keep the business going, even if sales are not really your specialty.
It is inspired in games such as Potion Craft, for the mechanics and overall gameplay loop; Paper's Please, for the day mechanic and narrative; and Presentable Liberty for the visuals and partialy the narrative.
All the programming and game design was made by me, using Godot 4 and GDScript.
Instructions:
This is a purely point-and-click game. Every action uses only the mouse.
HUD:
Inventory at the top left, and your current order right below it. Click to open/close
Store:
The store opens once the day is over. The sales are random each run and it's where you can replace your spent items.
Door:
Once you hear the knock on the door, there is a client and they will order one of the potions avaliable in the prototype. To talk to them, you must click and drag the door window open, and the same to close afterwards.
Stock:
The stock is where you will pick up the ingredients for the potions, they are currently divided into Base, Plant, Ore and Flask. It currently holds 5 of each item.
Table:
The table is where most of the game happens. You will craft potions here. Here is what you can use in this prototype:
- Hourglass, each turn counts 10 seconds.
- Bellows, each press boils the liquid in the caldron for 10 seconds.
- Caldron, throw the ingredients inside. The bellows only work after you have added a liquid base.
- Rope above the caldron, to dry items. Only dries if the liquid in the caldron is currently boiling.
- Book, all potions avaliable are written in the book. Every potion currently uses three ingredients each. Also, explanations of the relevant tools for the version.
- Mortar (below the book), where you can crush your ingredients.
- Cutting board (Right of the cauldron), where you can cut your ingredients.
- Trash (Next to the door), just a slot to throw away anything you don't need or was wasted.
Conditions:
Conditions are currently only avaliable to plants.
- Dry, Cut, Crushed
Every condition depends on the player processing the ingredient through one of the tools.
Crafting:
If you follow the recipe in the book, once the three ingredients are ready and added to the caldron, click "Mix". Once you are finished, you must add a Flask to the cauldron to get your potion ready. If it comes out as a black liquid, it is wasted. If not...
